3D Scanning & Printing

Cutting-Edge Digital Technology at the Craft Smiles Dental Office

The medical industry has seen a rapid increase in the use of 3D scanning and printing. This technology is used to create prostheses, dental implants and so on. The use of 3D scanning and printing is evolving in the dental industry and has become very relevant. Its capabilities are progressing in the dental sector, and dentists are now able to do the scanning and printing themselves.

A Revolution in the Dental Industry

Our Craft Smiles doctors believe in active manufacturing of customized items such as implants, bleaching trays and such, which must be matched exactly with the form of each patient’s mouth. Since every patient has their own dentition, or form/arrangement of their teeth, 3D scanning and models allow for exactly accurate dental restorations. This is the key to modern dentistry, and it is the reason digital dentistry is considered a time-saving and cost-effective solution in the dental industry.

How Does a 3D Scanner and Printer Work?

A 3D scanner and 3D printer work together to help you create a replica. While the scanner converts a real object into a virtual one, the printer uses a virtual object to produce a real one. The 3D scanner collects the physical data of an object to create a digital model. The data includes volume, color, and texture. The scanners are of two types:

  • Contact scanners that have a probe which scans an object by touching its surface.
  • Non-contact scanners that emit radiation and collect what is reflected by the object’s surface, or collect radiation that originates from another source and is reflected by the object’s surface.

Using the digital model created by the scanner, the 3D printer produces a real three-dimensional object that we use in treating dental problems.

Dental Application of 3D Scanning and Printing

There are numerous benefits of using 3D scanning and printing in our dental office.  These techniques allow us not only to produce dental forms that fit your mouth and teeth exactly, but they also permit us to do so quickly and without relying on outside sources.

This Technology is Used In:

Dental implants: It is easier to get a 3D implant faster and more accurately with the help of a 3D scanner and printer. It is a more comfortable and economical method.

Crowns: Crowns can be produced very quickly, as the process is done in-house at our Craft Smiles office. We will scan your teeth to model and print your crown directly.

Aligners: Invisalign® aligners are produced using this technology to help you straighten your teeth.

Night guards: 3D scanning and printing help make night guards that fit perfectly. They are custom made to meet your needs and protect your teeth accurately.

Bleaching trays: Most at-home teeth whitening systems fail due to improper bleaching trays that do not fit your teeth. With the help of 3D scanning and printing, we can give you custom made bleaching trays work properly for your teeth.
